Our lab is interested in cancer-dependent metabolic remodeling. We study the mechanisms by which cancer cells alter their metabolism in order to fulfill specific metabolic demands needed for their malignancy.
We are investigating the unique metabolic processes that are particularly involved in tumor progression; such as the transition of cancer cells to a more aggressive state, aside from the metabolic processes involved in cell proliferation per se. We have already identified a number of metabolic genes regulating tumor progression without affecting cell cycling. Our major aim is to understand their mechanisms of action and the role of the involved metabolites. Our rationale is that the more we know of the metabolites involved in tumor progression, the better we uncover novel mechanisms essential for this process.
